The Dilemma of Success

What is success?

A million dollars? A billion dollars? Good health? No attachments? Good relationship with important people in our life? One hundred thousand followers? Or perhaps, success is simply to have everything I’ve mentioned.

Should we even think about what success is in the first place? Success is indeed complicated. Some people want everything and others want nothing. Who am I to say who’s right and who’s wrong?

Success to me is indeed many things. I think it’s impossible to say success is made up of just achieving one or two things. Still, I’d like to try and the continuous pursuit of the art and science of it is something that I’m very curious and passionate about.

The key to success is to live in alignment with our true purpose in life. That is something we should spend the majority of our time and energy on. Not all, of course. But most. And first, we need to identify what our purpose is. Not knowing our purpose is a bit like playing a game of football without any goalposts. What fun is there? Also, not knowing our purpose will make us commit the mistake of inadvertently spending our limited and precious resources on everything else but the things that truly matters.

While we’re along our journey getting our purpose right, we shouldn’t neglect other building blocks to our success. That’s where our family comes in. That’s where our health comes in – both physical and mental.

And often along our journey, we become stuck, lost, confused or even going in circles. But that’s where we need to realize it’s okay. It’s okay to take a break. It’s okay to regroup and have another go. Life isn’t perfect. It’s not supposed to be. Life’s always a little messy and as long as we don’t give up, we can’t lose.
